12 weeks old

Wow, has it really been 4 weeks since we did an update?  Well, our girl is 12 weeks now and still doing great.  Her scar is looking good too.  They tried to make her a belly button and it didn't really work.  It's basically another scar in the middle of her belly.  Her stomach still sticks out a good bit, but they say that should go down over time.  Here are some pictures of her belly and some others.

Our rock n' roll baby!

I'm cute and I know it!

What are you looking at?

  1. How precious!
I found your blog through Jen "making Lemonade." I found last month that my baby boy has an omphalocele. Our whole pregnancy has been up and down. How did the belly button not work? Will it take form later?

  2. Hi Elisabeth.

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but congrats on the pregnancy. Hopefully your story will have a happy ending like ours did. We are so very lucky. I know how hard it can be right now, so hang in there.

In regards to the belly button, the dr. tried to make one, but it really just made a mark on her belly, and not an actually belly button. It's hard to explain. After the umbilical cord fell off (which took over 2 months) it just left a dark mark which will be more of a scar than anything. It will not take shape later. But if she's happy and healthy I think she can live without a real belly button. The scar looks great and over time it will almost disappear. We are so fortunate that she only needed one surgery and so far is perfectly normal.

Feel free to ask any other questions you may have. Right up until delivery we were preparing for the worst and the omphalocele was considered giant measuring about 5 cm. When she was born things were much better than expected.
